SWIMMING POOLS

COFFEE MACHINES

What is the 'reverse osmosis''?

Reverse osmosis is known as the highest possible filtration (of the best), the water purification technology industry. Reverse osmosis (RO - ReverseOsmosis) was developed in the late 1950s with the assistance of the US government, as a method of desalination of sea water and convert it into drinking. Today, the reverse osmosis system is acceptable as the perfect cleaning solution and water filtration. It was also used for watering plants and many industries that require extremely pure water.

Now this advanced technology is now available in homes and offices for production of potable water at very low cost.

What is the reverse osmosis principle of operation in the physical?

The phenomenon of osmosis occurs when pure water or a dilute saline dissolving located on one side of a semipermeable membrane passes through this membrane at a higher concentration of salt dissolution on the other side.

The phenomenon of osmosis is shown in Figure 1. A semi-permeable membrane is placed between two compartments. "Semipermeable" means that the membrane is permeable in some species, and impermeable to others. Assume that this membrane is permeable to water but not to salt. Then place a salt solution in an apartment and clean water to another compartment. The membrane will only allow the water to permeate through to the other side facing the saline solution. Salt can not pass to the side of pure water.

In this fundamental rule of nature, this system will try to reach equilibrium. That will try to reach the same sygkentrosikai on both sides of the membrane. The only possible way to achieve balance is water to pass from the pure water apartment in the apartment with high salt content solution to dilute the salt solution.

Figure 1 also shows that the osmosis can cause an increase in the height of the column of the salted solution. This amount will increase until the pressure of the column of salty solution is so high that the force of the water column stops the water flow.
